After a divorce, one of the best things that you can do is to try to reduce
the amount of stress in the home. This can help a child grow up in a caring
environment where their needs and desires are actually being put first.
Now, it can be hard to eliminate stress, so it's important to pinpoint
what causes it in Illinois and elsewhere, and then it can be targeted.
First of all, the child custody situation can play a huge role. It is commonly
acknowledged that, despite some recent work to change the way that the
system is set up, mothers tend to get custody more often than fathers
after a divorce.
For a mother, this can create stress because of the time that it takes
up. She may feel like she does not have the chance to have fun or enjoy
a normal social life. She may also be stressed because the ex-husband
may not be coming through with proper child support payments.
For a father, the stress could stem from the fact that the mother has the
child so much more often. This can build resentment. A father may feel
like his own child is being kept from him far too often. The times that
he does have with the child, then, may not be as fulfilling as they should be.
There are many ways to fight back against stress, and one of them is to
work hard to create a fair child custody situation that works for both
